THE CORRELATION BETWEEN THE PERCEPTION OF TEACHER’S EVALUATION AND STUDENTS’ INTEREST TOWARD ENGLISH ACHIEVEMENT AMONG THE EIGHTH GRADE STUDENTS OF SMPN 1 SEMEN
Abstract
The aim of this study was to find out the correlation between the perception of teacher’s evaluation and students’ interest toward English achievement among the eighth grade students’ of SMPN 1 Semen Kediri. The quantitative approach was used to design this research. The techniques were partial correlation and simultaneous regression. The instruments were questionnaires and test. The subject of this research was the eighth grades students while the sample of this research was 175 students. From the SPSS computation, the results in this research which use partial correlation are that (1) 0.305, the correlation is in the significance level at 1% or 0.01 (2-tailed) for the correlation between the perception of teacher’s evaluation and students’ interest controlled by English achievement, (2) 0.123, the correlation is in the significance level at more than 5% or 0.05 (2-tailed) for the correlation between the perception of teacher’s evaluation and English achievement controlled by students’ interest, and (3) -0.048, the correlation is in the significance level at more than 5% or 0.05 (2-tailed) for the correlation between students’ interest and English achievement controlled by the perception of teacher’s evaluation. While the result in this research which uses simultaneous regression is 1.335.The significance level is 0,266(a) in ANOVA. It means that the degree of error to accept hypothesis is 0.266 or 26.6%. It is higher than 5% significance level. It means that hypothesis null is accepted. From the results, it is recommended that the teacher should give attention on evaluation to make students give good perception and increase their interest that can influence on students’ English achievement.
