GRAMMATICAL ERROR ANALYSIS IN IELTS ACADEMIC WRITING AT ELFAST ENGLISH COURSE

Abstract

This research focuses on the grammatical errors analysis. It describes the grammatical errors that happened in the students’ writing on IELTS Academic Writing at ELFAST English Course period 10th May 2015. The researcher uses the qualitative approach based on Moleong theory. Those are identifying, classifying, tabulating and calculation. The main data were obtained from the writings of the students studying in Academic writing on IELTS program. To support the data, the researcher also used an interview. These writings were analyzed based on taxonomy theory taken from Heidy Dulay. The errors are classified into four groups. Those are omission, additions, misformations, and misordering errors. The number of errors was 154 taken from 9 students’ writing. From the data found, the errors in omissions and misformations became the most common. The interlanguage problem is the main reasons why the students faced errors.
